Sometimes, the best ideas come from the most unexpected moments. For me, the story of Silly Duck began with a simple family trip to India. I was excited to explore, spend time with loved ones, and soak in the vibrant culture. But amidst the adventure, something surprising happened—I started missing Hong Kong like crazy.
Living in Hong Kong had always been a big part of my identity. It’s where I spent my college days at Shenzhen University, just a stone’s throw away from home. One of my favorite rituals during that time was grabbing bubble tea from a small shop near campus. It wasn’t just about the drink; it was about the comfort and familiarity it brought. Bubble tea had become a little escape in a cup, and I didn’t realize how much it meant to me until I couldn’t find it anymore.
While wandering around the bustling streets of Delhi, I searched for something that could replicate that feeling. But to my disappointment, there wasn’t a single bubble tea place that could hit the spot. That’s when the idea hit me: why not bring authentic bubble tea to India?
The thought planted a seed of excitement. As soon as I got back to Hong Kong, I threw myself into learning everything I could about bubble tea. I wasn’t just interested in making it; I wanted to master it. For three years, I immersed myself in the art of bubble tea, experimenting with recipes, flavors, and techniques. I learned about the perfect tea-to-milk ratio, the science behind those chewy tapioca pearls, and how to make every sip an experience.
Finally, after years of trial and error (and probably drinking way more bubble tea than one person should), I felt ready to take the leap. I returned to India with a dream and a mission: to bring a piece of Hong Kong to the streets of Delhi. And so, Silly Duck was born.
Today, Silly Duck isn’t just a bubble tea shop; it’s a bridge between two places I call home. It’s about sharing a piece of Hong Kong’s vibrant bubble tea culture with India and creating a space where people can experience the same happiness and comfort I felt during my college days.
Looking back, it’s amazing how a simple craving turned into a life-changing journey. Silly Duck started as an idea sparked by homesickness, but it’s grown into so much more—a celebration of flavors, cultures, and memories. And this is just the beginning.
